PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics and Neurology core clerkships are required.

COMPETENCIES: Neurological history and examination, interpretation of neurodiagnostic tests, neurological therapeutics and diagnosis.

INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES: : The Department of Neurology at Christ Hospital and Medical Center has been teaching medical students for the past 35 years. We have gained great expertise in being able to translate the complexities of medical/neurological histories and physicals in a palatable, entertaining and inform active manner to our students. Our rotation, as well as our faculty, have frequently received commendations in recognition of their excellence. The structure of our program is exclusively bedside teaching with impromptu lectures on relevant material. X-ray rounds, brain cutting, and participation in hospital-wide conferences occur routinely. An attending physician is present from 10:00 am until rounds are completed at approximately 5:00 – 6:00 pm five and one-half days per week. The days are long but the experience is worthwhile. No night call is required for students. Weekend rounds include Saturday, which is a half-day. Students will be on service with residents, including Neurology (PGY 2 and 4 levels), as well as Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine and Family Practice residents. The atmosphere is informal; questions as well as constructive criticism are encouraged.

ASSESSMENT: An evaluation form will be filled out at the end of the rotation.
