Intro
PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM:
Students must have completed the M3 Core Clerkship in Pediatrics.
PURPOSE:
Main objectives of this elective: to familiarize the student with the management of hypertension, hematuria, proteinuria, fluid and electrolyte and acid base disturbances, acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, and urinary tract infections in newborns, children, and adolescent patients.
COMPETENCIES:
Will be assessed through didactic teaching and teaching at the bedside
INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES:
Students will see patients in both the outpatient setting (in clinic), as well as for inpatient consults. They will also get opportunities to present articles from current journals. All their work will be supervised by one of the faculty members. Interested students will have opportunities to participate in clinical research or write case reports for publication. They are also expected to attend lectures, journal clubs, and interdisciplinary meetings.
ASSESSMENT:
Based on engagement, participation in clinical and didactic activities, and based on evaluation of clinical competencies
