Gynecologic Oncology – UI Health

PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM:
Students must have completed the M3 Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship.

PURPOSE:
The senior elective rotation will provide the student with exposure to the comprehensive care of patients with gynecologic malignancies as well as patients with pre-malignant disease. This includes exposure to patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for gynecological cancers as well as patients on clinical research protocols. The senior student will function as the intern on the rotation and be involved in all aspects of care for gynecologic oncology patients including accompanying the faculty to the operating room, to conceptualizing pelvic anatomy, as well as, the altered anatomical field secondary to malignant disease.

COMPETENCIES:
To enhance skill in risk identification, work-up, staging and comprehensive treatment modalities of gynecologic cancers. The senior student will also be exposed to the medical and surgical complications involved in patients with gynecologic malignancies.

ASSESSMENT:
How and when will students e evaluated: At the end of the elective, global evaluation form will be filled out and the students will meet with the course director for review. How and when will students be given midterm feedback: Evaluations are given daily as needed and after two weeks, students will get a mid-term feedback.
