Infectious Diseases – ALGH

Updated: 4/16/18

Students must be an M4.

Senior medical students will be accepted for a 4-week rotation on the inpatient Infectious Diseases Consultation Service. The objective of the elective is for students to develop cognitive skills and competency to evaluate patients with infectious diseases.

Students will acquire these skills through new patient evaluations and follow-up of inpatients seen at the hospital and at attendance at scheduled lectures regarding infectious diseases. During the month-long rotation, students will gain experience and knowledge with common bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic infections as well as nosocomial infections, infections of various organ systems, and the use of antibiotics. Students will see 1-2 new consults and follow-up on 4-5 previously seen consults on a daily basis.
