Reporting Instructions for ALL STUDENTS
Body-for-Body Switch Procedure: All body-for-body switch and reassignment requests must be submitted to Student Affairs at least 4 weeks before the rotation start date.
Orientation for the first Monday:
Students from ALL SITES will begin orientation on the first Monday at UIC. A final email with orientation day details and schedule will be sent by Ellie Nelson – enelso28@uic.edu the Wednesday or Thursday before Monday’s orientation. Please contact only if you haven’t received the email by the Friday before orientation.

Clinical Rotations
Each student will spend 3 weeks on Ob, including one week of nights (Sun-Thurs), and 3 weeks of gyne.
Call Schedule
Students will have 2 Friday night calls on the gyne portion of the rotation.

Medical Student Rotation Requirements for students from outside institutions:
- Residents and medical students (“rotators”) must have approval from their sponsoring institution in order to rotate at MacNeal. A letter indicating this approval and that the rotator is in good standing from the school’s Director / Dean must be provided.
- The rotator must provide the name of the rotation, scheduled dates of the rotation, and the supervising physician for the rotation.
- Rotators must have a completed application form, with a photo, and a copy of their sponsoring institution identification badge.
- Residents must have documentation of Illinois state medical licensure.
- Foreign residents must provide a copy of his/her ECFMG certificate and proof of valid visa status.
- Rotators need to have proof of HIPAA and OSHA training. Students need to have this training prior to starting the rotation, as it is not being offered at MacNeal.
- Rotators must have proof of Malpractice coverage.
- Rotators must be free from communicable diseases. Rotators are required to have proof of immunity from Rubeola and Rubella. Rotators who do not have a history of chicken pox must have a Varicella IgG titer demonstrating immunity. Rotators must have proof of having received the 3 step hepatitis B vaccination series with positive hepatitis B sAb, or alternatively the rotator may sign the declination form refusing the series. Rotators are required to have proof of a negative TB skin test within the last 12 months OR if there was a positive TB skin test, there must be documentation of a negative chest x-ray. If a rotator has a positive TB skin test and a positive chest x-ray, that rotator must meet with Dr. Mark Levin to discuss the treatment received for tuberculosis.
- Fit testing from the last 12 months with the 3M 1870+ Aura Mask or 3M 1860S Mask—documentation must state the make, model, and size.
Please note that 3M 1860 does come in size regular but our Employee Health can only accept the size small. - Rotators must read and sign a Confidentiality Pledge form. Any willful breach of confidentiality may result in discipline and termination.
- Once rotators have completed all requirements, the rotator will obtain a MacNeal Hospital ID badge. This badge must be worn at all times while on the Hospital campus.
- Rotators are expected to arrive for their first rotations prepared to work and learn. They should be neatly dressed and groomed, wear a short lab coat, and carry a stethoscope, pen, and any other supplies they may need to carry out their duties on the rotation. The rotators’ sponsoring institution must be clearly indicated on the lab coat.
- If applicable, students will be evaluated by the attending physician(s) at the end of the rotation. Attending physicians will complete any standard form required by the rotator’s sponsoring institution.
- If applicable, rotators will have an opportunity to evaluate the rotation, and their supervising attending physicians and residents at the end of the rotation.
If applicable, there must be an Institutional Agreement in place before students can rotate at MacNeal Hospital. The Medical School must contact Diana Viravec, M.D., Chief Academic Officer, Medical Education, 708/783-3400 to arrange this affiliation.

CLINICAL ROTATIONS
Students are assigned to the Obstetrics service for three weeks and the Gynecology service for three weeks.
While on the Obstetrics service, you will admit patients in labor, perform vaginal deliveries under supervision, assist in operative deliveries, care for your patients post-partum, and assist in the evaluation of patients with pregnancy-related complications in high risk clinic and ultrasound.
On the Gynecology service, youwill admit patients to the hospital with gynecologic problems or forpre-operative evaluation, and will assist on surgeries dealing with benigngynecology, infertility, and gynecologic oncology. You will also see patientsin the ER and inpatient consultations. In the outpatient gyne clinic, youwill see routine and complicated gynecologic problems including abnormalbleeding, abnormal pap smears, etc.
CALL SCHEDULE
Call is a night float system with each student spending one week of their OB rotation on nights (Sunday-Thursday nights) and for the remainder of the rotation will have either a Saturday or Sunday 12-hour call.

Students have the opportunity to care for a large volume of patients with a wide variety of obstetric and gynecologic problems. Faculty representing all major subspecialties in Obstetrics and Gynecology actively participate in medical student education. Medical students are able to participate in all of the department’s clinical activities, which are on the cutting edge of medical science.
