Adam Mikolajczyk, MD Program

It is my great pleasure to introduce you to our Internal Medicine Residency Program, one of the most diverse academic programs in Chicago, which proudly advocates and cares for underserved and marginalized patient populations while focusing on the provision of a well-rounded educational experience.  The excitement of bringing physicians from all walks of life to their fullest potential motivates our leadership team every day.  We strongly feel that our patient population, the family atmosphere of our program, and the autonomy that the residents have is a perfect environment to train the next generation of physicians.

Besides our Categorical and Preliminary Medicine programs, we offer combined Internal Medicine residencies in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics.

The University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency program is a three year, ACGME accredited program with teaching sites at both the University of Illinois Hospital (UIH) and the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center (JBVA).

This one-year program is designed for individuals pursuing careers in other specialties. Residents in this program undertake a year of training that is identical to the first year of residency in the categorical program.

The department’s longest standing combined program, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, is a four-year experience for residents who wish to be experts in the non-surgical care of patients of all ages. These trainees alternate between Internal Medicine and Pediatrics over the course of four years, satisfying board requirements for certification in both specialties.

The combined five-year residency in Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine is designed for those trainees who wish to complement the breadth of skills in Emergency Medicine with the depth of Internal Medicine. Rotating between Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, residents satisfy board requirements for certification in both specialties.
