- COMLEX scores can be submitted by Osteopathic applicants.

Applicants should review a copy of the UIC resident agreement and understand employee requirements before submitting their NRMP rank list.
Prospective residents must review a copy of UIC’s resident agreement and GME Policy Manual for employment requirements before submitting their NRMP rank list. Matched residents must comply with all requirements set forth in the GME Policy Manual as well as applicable Hospital and University policies.
Eligibility Requirements and Application Status
- Due to our high volume of applications, we are unlikely to extend interview offers to both categorical and preliminary applicants who do not send a gold or silver signal to our program.
- AAMC’s advice to applicants is that program signals should be used if applicants are interested in their home program, or one at which they have done an away rotation (MyERAS Guide for Applicants, page 6) to preserve consistency and equity.
- We require our applicants to have graduated from medical school within the last 4 years. If you have graduated between 1-4 years prior to applying to residency, we also expect demonstration of significant ongoing clinical activity following graduation.
- We do not have minimum USMLE scores criteria.
- The program only sponsors J-1 visas.
- In order to be ranked on the NRMP match list, all interviewed applicants must pass both Step 1 and Step 2 USMLE or COMLEX clinical knowledge exams.
- Please email mcrespo@uic.edu for application status or other inquiries, for example, couple’s match applications.

Our program strives to adhere to the NRMP Match Code of Conduct for Programs, which includes minimization of communication with applicants outside of the interview day. In partnership with several of our peer programs, the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UIC has decided not to participate in the NRMP list lock pilot and will not be offering in-person second looks for the 2025–2026 application season. We hope this decision helps to ease financial and logistical burdens for applicants during the recruitment process. We sincerely appreciate your time and attention, and we wish you the best of luck this recruitment season.
On Thursday evenings, the residents will host a virtual social hour from 6:30 – 7:30 pm (CST) for applicants interviewing on Thursday or Friday.
*To ensure equity for all applicants to our program, we will not be participating in any in-person recruitment activities. All interviews and open houses will be virtual.
DEI Council, URIM and Specialized Tracks Open Houses*
The program hosts several virtual open houses during the recruitment period. Except for the DEI Council Happy Hour, the Administrative Team will email the open house registration links only to scheduled applicants.
