Preliminary Medicine
Introduction
This one-year program is designed for individuals pursuing careers in other specialties. Residents in this program undertake a year of training that is identical to the first year of residency in the categorical program with the same choice of electives, vacation times, retreat participation and benefits. Trainees will not have a general medicine clinic, but they may participate in specialty clinics in areas related to their advanced program such as Radiology, Anesthesiology, or Ophthalmology. All preliminary residents have successfully transitioned into PGY-2 positions across a wide variety of specialties including some that transition to Categorical Internal Medicine.
