FAQs Heading link
-
Does IMED accept non-Illinois residents into the program?
Yes.
-
Would I be taking the same courses during the M1-M2 years?
Yes. The regular curriculum at the Chicago campus applies to all students, including Innovation in Medicine participants.
-
Would I be doing the same clinical rotations during the M3-M4 years?
The six major rotations in the third year (family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/ gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, surgery) apply to all students. Innovation in Medicine students will be placed in clerkship tracks based on the same policies that apply to all students. In the M4 year, IMED participants complete a capstone project. The same number of specialty and elective rotations applies equally to all students. Completion of the IMED program will satisfy 6 weeks of elective longitudinal credit.
-
What additional coursework would I be pursuing during this curriculum?
In the first two years, IMED students will participate in additional classes and activities that supplement their knowledge and skills in various issues related to innovation in medicine. These classes will be scheduled at times that don’t conflict with examinations or other curricular activities. In the M3 and M4 years, IMED activities will be scheduled around other required courses.
-
Who should apply?
Students who are applying to the University of Illinois College of Medicine and are interested in interdisciplinary innovation related to engineering and technology in health care. Undergraduate degrees in engineering and related fields are not required, but are encouraged.
-
Am I obligated to seek entry into specific residency programs or specialties?
No. Because of the multitude of needs facing patients, any residency program or specialty may be chosen by IMED participants. We expect that the additional activities will enhance the graduate training in any area of medicine.
