PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM:
Students must have completed the M3 Core Clerkships in Pediatrics and Surgery.
PURPOSE:
This rotation will give the students a basic introduction to common problems in pediatric surgery.
INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES:
During this rotation, students will have the opportunity to examine, evaluate, and participate in the management of pediatric surgical outpatients and inpatients. They will be primarily responsible for the management of patients assigned to them. They will participate in the operating room and post-operative management. The weekly schedule consists of two days in the operating room, two days in the clinic, a weekly review of patients managed by the service, and a weekly lecture on common pediatric surgical topics. Students will not be expected to take call but they will be expected to follow-up on all their patients. Students will come into contact with approximately 5-7 outpatients every week and will follow the management of 1-2 inpatients every week.
