PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM:
Completion of Medicine Clerkship.
PURPOSE:
To provide training and experience for the student to develop the cognitive knowledge, clinical skills, and practice competence in the field of endocrinology and metabolism.
COMPETENCIES:
The major objectives are to provide an intensive period of instruction and experience in the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and management of patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders.
INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES:
There are multiple educational and clinical activities at the UI Hospital. The student attends both outpatient clinic and inpatient rounds, has the opportunity to participate in patient care related activities, conferences, journal clubs, seminars, and research discussions in close association with, and guided by the endocrinology attendings, fellows, and residents. They are given increasing responsibility in evaluating and managing patients, literature review, and presenting material at the endocrinology conferences.
ASSESSMENT:
Students will be given midterm feedback and feedback at the completion of the elective. This evaluation will be based on their clinical performance.
