PREREQUISITES AND PLACEMENT IN THE CURRICULUM:
Students must have completed their M3 Core Clerkships in Medicine and Surgery.
PURPOSE:
Exposure of student to diagnostic imaging with focus on developing diagnostic skills and appropriate utilization of radiology service.
COMPETENCIES:
By the end of the rotation, the student will be able to:
- describe the basics of each section of Radiology.
- connect the anatomy they have learned with the images viewed by the Radiologist or resident.
- discuss how the department functions, with the technologists, Residents and Radiologists.
- perform reading assignments according to the cases the student has observed.
- demonstrate the ability to communicate knowledge to others at the end of rotation presentation.
INSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES:
The student will be introduced to all aspects of diagnostic imaging. The student will be asked to make a short, formal presentation on some relevant subject at our weekly radiology grand rounds. The major portion of the clerkship will be devoted to image interpretation.

Effective immediately, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s Department of Medical Education will strictly enforce its policy that students submit required paperwork at least two weeks before the start of their rotation.
This policy is available on our website. The policy states: “Once a rotation is scheduled or approved, the following forms and information must be received by the AIMMC, Medical Education Department a minimum of four (4) weeks prior to the start date”. Information can be submitted via e-mail, fax, or postal service to the rotating location (See Site Specific Information). Students must follow-up with the Coordinator to ensure paperwork has been received and processed. Rotations will be cancelled if forms and information are not complete and approved a minimum of four (4) weeks prior to the start of the rotation.
