Interim Chief, Division of Cardiology
Dr. Adhir R. Shroff, MD, MPH, is an interventional cardiologist serving as Interim Chief of the Division of Cardiology. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine and chief residency at the University of Michigan before pursuing fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. He also earned a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health with a focus on clinical effectiveness and health economics. He is currently pursuing advanced training in finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Dr. Shroff joined the UIC faculty in 2004. He is a Professor of Medicine, with clinical appointments at both the University of Illinois Hospital and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.
At UIC, Dr. Shroff has played a central role in building and leading the interventional cardiology program. He has served as Chief of Interventional Cardiology, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, and Program Director of the Interventional Cardiovascular Fellowship, helping to expand access to advanced cardiovascular care across the region while training the next generation of cardiologists. His academic and educational initiatives have secured several hundred thousand dollars in grant and industry support to develop innovative educational programs. Many of these initiatives emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and cardiovascular technologists to improve procedural care, quality, and outcomes. Dr. Shroff has delivered invited presentations at major scientific meetings, including ACC, SCAI, and TCT, and has contributed extensively to peer review, editorial boards, and original clinical research focused on cardiovascular outcomes and health systems innovation.
Dr. Shroff has been regularly recognized for his commitment to education. He was awarded the Richard Weber Award (2021), the Chief Resident’s Award (2020), and the Attending Physician of the Year (2013, 2010, 2009) as recognition for teaching efforts. He is also deeply engaged in national professional leadership. Within the American College of Cardiology, he currently serves as Chair-elect of the Academic Leadership Committee and has been a member of the Scientific Sessions Planning Committee and the NCDR CathPCI Registry Research and Publications Subcommittee. Within the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), he has chaired the Education Committee, led the Vascular Access Working Group, and served in leadership roles for the Fellows’ Summit at the SCAI’s Scientific Sessions. Through these roles, as well as his extensive mentorship of trainees and students, Dr. Shroff has remained committed to fostering diversity, supporting emerging investigators, and advancing equitable cardiovascular care.
