Mission

To establish The University of Illinois at Chicago, Division of Cardiology as a nationally recognized Center of Excellence in the evaluation and management of cardiovascular disease.

About Us

Research

At the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Center for Regenerative Medicine in Cardiology, our mission is to explore the developmental and functional properties of cardiac muscle through the use of embryonic and adult stem cells. We will extend our basic science results to preclinical studies in animal models of cardiovascular disease with defined therapeutic outcomes. Our goal is to develop clinical trials that translate our preclinical research into safe and effective ways of treating cardiovascular disease in our patients.

Patient Care

The University of Illinois Division of Cardiology maintains outpatient offices both in the Heart Center and in the Outpatient Care Center on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). UIC cardiologists and the full range of ambulatory cardiac services are available. Many advanced tests are available on an outpatient basis through the Heart Center, including a full lipid profile as well as advanced lipid screening, assessment of the clotting ability of a patient’s blood, advanced internal heart measurements with ultrasound, and treadmill stress tests.

Our Clinical Programs

Arrhythmia

and

Electrophysiology

Our faculty has been at the center of cardiac electrophysiology innovation. We offer unique, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients with atrial fibrillation, ventricular arrhythmias, and other electrophysiology issues. Our faculty is continually innovating to improve current therapeutic arrhythmia technologies and introduce new techniques and tools to make curative technologies safer and more effective.

Heart

Failure

We utilize a multidisciplinary disease management approach to care of patients with early to advanced stage heart failure. Our program strives to meet our patients medical and non-medical needs, employing a team of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers and physicians trained in the management of heart failure.

Cardiovascular

Magnetic

Resonance

(CMR)

Our CMR program has rapidly grown to be one of the highest volume clinical programs in the region receiving referrals from throughout the Chicagoland area. Our 1.5 and 3 Tesla scanners produce images of superb quality and resolution, providing a detailed assessment of the anatomy and function of the heart.

Cardio-Oncology

Program

In partnership with the Cancer Center, this program provides evaluation of patients being treated with potentially cardiotoxic regimen using speckle tracking echocardiography. The goal of screening is to detect pre-clinical changes in myocardial function allowing early institution of cardioprotective therapies.

Cardiac

Rehabilitation

and

Cardio-Pulmonary

Stress Testing

In partnership with the School of Applied Health Sciences, we offer a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation and cardio-pulmonary stress testing.
