Dean’s Summer Research Scholars in Basic/Translational Science
Overview Heading link
The Dean’s Summer Research Scholars in Basic/Translational Science program enables medical students who are interested in basic and/or translational science to conduct defined summer research and scholarship projects under the mentorship and guidance of basic science faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine between their first and second years.
For this program, proposals (1) should focus on basic science (bench) and/or translational research, and (2) students should identify a research mentor in one of the six basic science departments of the UI College of Medicine: Anatomy & Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Bioengineering, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, or Physiology and Biophysics. Projects should align with student interests.
Scholars are expected to work full-time on their research project during the summer months. In addition to financial support, scholars receive mentorship from their research mentors and participate in weekly research seminars.
