Our mission is to enhance global health by conducting collaborative, multidisciplinary research, nurturing the next generation of global health leaders, and strengthening the capacities of our global partners. Rooted in the values of respect, partnership, collaboration, innovation, community, diversity, equity, and reciprocity, our work is guided by a commitment to addressing the legacy of colonialism, systemic racism, and other forms of structural violence. We aim to promote health equity and diversity in the field of global health by increasing representation among students and faculty.

Our purpose is to position the UI College of Medicine (UI COM) as a national leader in global health. We achieve this through expanding global health research, enhancing medical and graduate global health education, fostering a network of global and local partnerships, and advocating for the visibility and sustainability of global medicine. Our goals encompass conducting innovative research that responds to evolving global health challenges, becoming a leader in global health education, building a global network of partners, and advancing the profile of global medicine. Engaging in global health not only offers leadership opportunities but also provides our students and trainees with invaluable cross-cultural perspectives, enriching the educational experience for all.
