CHARM Initiatives

In its foundational stage, the Center is working to advance menopause care and awareness within the following five areas:

Medical Education

Develop and implement a menopause care curriculum to equip future healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide quality menopause care. Initially, the curriculum will be implemented by the University of Illinois College of Medicine with plans for dissemination globally in partnership with national and international medical education associations.

Trusted Information

Disseminate evidence-based information and resources that empower women to manage menopause.

Research to Care

Conduct research projects to advance our understanding of menopause (e.g., cognition, sleep, mental health, cardiovascular disease) and its impact on women’s health, and develop effective interventions to improve overall quality of life during this important life transition.

Menopause Care Services in Illinois and Beyond

Expand menopause education and care for women across urban, suburban, and rural communities. Provide resources and training for the primary care workforce, and increase access to care through mobile clinics, health cafes, telehealth, and group menopause care to reach women where they live and work.

Advocacy

Advance the inclusion of menopause care in local, national, and global policies.

  • In partnership with rē•spin, founded by Halle Berry, amplify public awareness and accelerate policy reform around menopause care, education, and research.
  • Collaborate with the Illinois state government to drive policy changes that support menopause care, offer provider training, and examine the impact of menopause on women in the workforce, highlighting the economic benefits of supporting women through this stage.
  • In collaboration with the International Menopause Society, promote menopause education and awareness in international communities, helping to foster advocacy and drive meaningful change at scale.
  • As a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Alliance for Women’s Health, drive advocacy and policy change worldwide, and fill the data gap for critical menopause health indicators globally.
