Our residents rotate through four unique sites in our hospital consortium. UI Health physicians are national leaders in clinical care and research. Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center is an integrated trauma site with a dedicated mental health wing. OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center is a high-acuity hospital with advanced imaging technology. Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a Level 1 pediatric trauma center. Each hospital offers diverse specialties and serves a distinct patient population.

UI Health, our primary academic center, is a top-tier quaternary care facility featuring a 462-bed hospital, 26 outpatient clinics, and 14 Federally Qualified Health Centers. Renowned for its leadership in transplant and sickle cell medicine, UI Health also boasts a diverse and academically active faculty.

Located within the Illinois Medical District (IMD) on the University of Illinois Chicago’s West Campus, UI Health is at the heart of a major healthcare and research hub. It is surrounded by prominent institutions, including Rush University Medical Center, John H. Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (IMMC)

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (IMMC)  is a 551-bed teaching and referral center in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. It is part of Advocate Health, one of the country’s largest nonprofit integrated health systems and the largest in Illinois. IMMC holds the highest state designations, including a Level I Trauma Center, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics.

The hospital’s Emergency Department handles around 45,000 visits annually, offering comprehensive urban emergency care and providing EMS leadership across Chicago as one of the city’s four base stations and a lead disaster hospital. Situated in the heart of Boystown, IMMC is well-known for its commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, treating a significant number of LGBTQ+ patients and addressing their unique health needs. Notably, it was the first hospital in Chicago to establish a dedicated HIV/AIDS unit during the peak of the AIDS epidemic in the 1990s.

Additionally, the emergency department features a 24-hour psychiatric unit staffed by crisis workers to ensure that patients with psychiatric concerns receive immediate and efficient care from experienced social workers and counselors.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a prominent teaching, research, and tertiary care facility located in Park Ridge, Illinois. With 645 beds, it is one of the largest hospitals in the Chicago area and serves as a Level I Trauma Center. Founded in 1897, the hospital has been educating Emergency Medicine residents for over thirty years.

Advocate Children’s Hospital, part of Lutheran General, is one of the state’s most comprehensive pediatric care providers. It stands out as the only children’s hospital in Chicago’s north and northwest suburbs. It is a significant Midwest referral center for infants and children, particularly those with complex illnesses and chronic conditions. The Children’s Hospital includes a 19-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a 54-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with pediatric emergency services staffed 24/7 by fellowship-trained Pediatric Emergency Medicine specialists.

Lutheran General is situated in a diverse community with a high incidence of ischemic heart disease, non-penetrating trauma, and sepsis. It has received national recognition for its excellence in STEMI (heart attack) and stroke (CVA) care. The hospital’s Emergency Department is supported by a stable faculty of over 25 Board-Certified Emergency Physicians who are dedicated to mentoring the next generation of emergency physicians.

OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Evergreen Park, Illinois, is a community hospital with a long history of serving the Chicago area, particularly its southwest side. Established in 1930 by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, the hospital merged with OSF HealthCare in 2020 to enhance its commitment to providing high-quality care.

The hospital is nationally recognized for its excellence in stroke care, pregnancy and birth services, and various other specialties. The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center Heading link

The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center

The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which recently celebrated its 50 years of academic partnership with the UIC College of Medicine, is a tertiary care facility with 175 beds and a modern ambulatory care center. Primary care services are divided into four practices and are based on the “continuity of care model”. The total number of visits in the Ambulatory Care Center is among the highest of all the VA facilities. Faculty hold academic appointments at the UIC, and many are involved in various research projects ranging from molecular biology to outcomes research.
Jesse Brown VA is only an IM/EM rotation site.
