Our home base and primary academic site, UI Health, is everything you would expect from a quaternary care center. It comprises a clinical enterprise that includes a 462-bed tertiary care hospital, 26 outpatient clinics, and 14 Mile Square Health Center facilities, which are Federally Qualified Health Centers. It is a leader in transplant and sickle cell medicine and boasts a wealth of academically-active faculty with various knowledge niches.

The hospital carries a distinct mission: to advance healthcare to improve the health of our patients and communities, promote health equity and develop the next generations of healthcare leaders. With many resources dedicated to social work support and preventative medicine, it’s an excellent environment for learning to be an interdisciplinary-minded physician.

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (IMMC) is a 408-bed hospital located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. It is a Level I trauma center, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics, the highest designations awarded by the state of Illinois.

The 45,000 patient visit Emergency Department provides comprehensive inner-city ED care and EMS leadership to the City of Chicago, serving as one of the city’s four base stations; it is a lead disaster hospital. With its distinctive location in the heart of Boystown, the hospital serves a large volume of LGBTQ+ patients allowing for exposure to pathology unique to the LGBTQ+ population. IMMC was the first hospital in Chicago to create a dedicated HIV/AIDS unit during the peak of the AIDS epidemic in the 1990s. Our emergency department psychiatric unit is staffed 24 hours by crisis workers; patients with psychiatric complaints are seen immediately and triaged quickly and efficiently by our social workers and counselors.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a teaching, research, and tertiary care hospital, a Level I trauma center, and among the largest hospitals in the Chicago area. Founded in 1897, it has educated EM Residents for more than three decades. Their Children’s Hospital, staffed 24 hours a day by fellowship-trained Pediatric EM partners, is one of the most comprehensive pediatric care providers in the state and the only children’s hospital in Chicago’s north and northwest suburbs serving as a significant Midwest referral center for infants and children, especially for complex illnesses and chronic conditions.

LGH is situated in a diverse community with a density of patients with ischemic heart disease, non-penetrating trauma, and sepsis. It has received national recognition for both STEMI and CVA care.
The faculty of over 25 Board Certified Emergency Physicians are very stable and interested in helping young Emergency Physicians gain the skills to excel in their career.

OSF HealthCare Little Company of Mary Hospital is a 298-bed health care facility located at is located at 2800 West 95th Street, Evergreen Park.  On average, Little Company’s emergency department sees 150 to 160 patients per day.

The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which recently celebrated its 50 years of academic partnership with the UIC College of Medicine, is a tertiary care facility with 175 beds and a modern ambulatory care center. Primary care services are divided into four practices and are based on the “continuity of care model”. The total number of visits in the Ambulatory Care Center is among the highest of all the VA facilities. Faculty hold academic appointments at the UIC, and many are involved in various research projects ranging from molecular biology to outcomes research.
