About
Dr. Trevonne Thompson is a Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine and Director of the Division of Medical Toxicology at the University of Illinois Chicago. An emergency physician, medical toxicologist, and academic leader, his work focuses on advancing toxicology education, mentorship, and global health partnerships. He also serves as Associate Program Director of the Toxikon Medical Toxicology Fellowship, where he has trained and mentored generations of clinicians entering the field.
Dr. Thompson’s clinical and academic work spans emergency care delivery, poisoning management, substance use–related public health challenges, and the development of toxicology systems both locally and internationally. He has led collaborative initiatives with global partners, including national health agencies in Fiji, and contributes to the development of national guidelines and ongoing professional education. His academic interests include medical toxicology curriculum design, clinical practice improvement in poisoning management, international emergency care development, and leadership within academic medicine.
In addition to his academic leadership, Dr. Thompson is deeply engaged in service to the university and broader medical community. He serves as Clerkship Director for the Medical Toxicology Medical Student Elective, Director of the Resident Documentation & Audit Committee, and Course Director for the Longitudinal Career Development Course at the UIC College of Medicine, where he supports student and resident growth through education, mentorship, and professional development.
