About
Dr. Brad Bunney is a Professor and Residency Program Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he also serves as Associate Head for Clinical Affairs. An accomplished clinician-educator and neuroscientist, Dr. Bunney has advanced emergency medicine through decades of leadership in residency education, mentorship, and translational research. His early work on dopamine neurotransmission and addiction helped establish key neurophysiologic mechanisms underlying substance use.
He recently co-authored “Disparities in Timely Access to Certified Stroke Care Among US Census Tracts, by Prevalence of Health Risk Factors” (Preventing Chronic Disease, 2025), a national study examining inequities in access to stroke care across communities. Since becoming Residency Program Director in 2006, Dr. Bunney has guided hundreds of trainees, fostering excellence in scholarship, professionalism, and compassionate care.
