Global Medicine (GMED) Program

The Global Medicine Program is a comprehensive, longitudinal, four-year curriculum designed to provide medical students with the skills and understanding required to develop a practice focusing on Global Health.

Graduates of the program will have a greater experience and understanding of the global health issues that face us in the 21st Century and will have careers as clinicians, educators, policy makers or researchers.

The goals of the GMED program are to prepare the participating medical students for global health careers by providing them with educational experiences that will enable them to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of social, environmental, political, and economic issues that contribute to world health disparities.
  • Skills that enable students to collaborate and partner to work with global health stakeholders to advance research, policy, and practice goals.
  • Professionalism working in global health including demonstration of ethical practice, respect for culture, and adaptation of practice to resource-limited settings.
  • Scholarly skills including strategic analysis, program management, capacity strengthening, and research to promote global health.
  • Commitment to serving as practicing physicians with a focus on global health.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Be committed to working with global communities
  • Have experience working in multicultural settings
  • Be passionate about addressing health disparities and inequities
