Project/Activity Summary
Capacity building in oncology has taken the form of exchange visits by radiation oncologists from UIC and Komfo Anyoke Teaching Hospital (KATH) and real-time on-line participation of Ghanaian oncology residents in didactic sessions and conferences in radiation and medical oncology at UIC. Anatomists from UIC Colleges of Dentistry and Medicine are assisting the Anatomy and Maxillofacial Science Faculty at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with improving teaching of neuroanatomy and head & neck and general anatomy. Capacity building collaborations in dentistry, pediatrics (particularly neonatology), and internal medicine are incipient. Exchange visits of faculty and students have occurred in dentistry and internal medicine and plans are being developed for exchanges of medical residents dental students and/or virtual training in dentistry, neonatology, and internal medicine between UIC and KATH and KNUST.
