The Research is led in Dr. Jagadeesh Ramasamy’s, (PhD) lab. Focus on erythrocyte autophagy proteins and their potential as non-opioid novel targets for pain in sickle cell disease. The pain severity of Sickle cell disease may associated with the overexpression of specific proteins and mitochondrial dysfunctional autophagy products in erythrocytes and plasma of SCD patient. Changes in membrane lipids composition in SCD RBC precursor cells due to stress erythropoiesis accelerate the release of dysfunctional autophagy products also need to be investigated
