About
Dr. Ai-Xuan Holterman immigrated from Vietnam to the US in 1975, on the heel of completing the French baccalaureate degree in Saigon, currently known as HCMC. Dr. Holterman's professional vocation is to advance children’s surgical care through clinical excellence, applied research, teaching and mentoring.
Dr. Holterman's academic records are briefly described as below:
- U.S. top doctor.
- Marquis Who’s Who.
- Surgeon scientist with NIH funded research in the biology of hepatocytes and bile duct cells in liver injury.
- Principal investigator of a multinational clinical trial under a FDA IND for repurposing GCSF in treating biliary atresia, a rare neonatal disease of the bile ducts that disproportionally affect developing countries.
- NIDDK External Scientific Consultant Panel for the Childhood Liver Diseases Research Network.
- Past director of Global Health in Pediatrics. Recipient of US Congress Faculty Grant-Vietnam Education Foundation to develop PASS, a Pediatric Acute Surgical Support course in Vietnam, that teaches the fundamentals of children emergency surgical care in under-resourced health facilities. PASS is now offered in countries of Africa and the Middle East.
Dr. Holterman has a deep interest in Global Health to improve the surgical care of children in low resources facilities and countries. Dr. Holterman is the founder of two 501(c)3 organizations IPSAC-VN (International Pediatric Specialist Alliance for the Children of Vietnam) and Prometheus USA.
