About
Michael Charles is an Associate Program Director and Associate Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He earned his undergraduate degrees in Human Nutrition and Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed both medical school and MedPeds residency training at UIC. In addition, he is board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine. In his primary care clinic, Dr. Charles treats patients with complex health conditions by enhancing his medical expertise with passionate promotion of healthy lifestyle habits to help patients achieve optimal physical, emotional, and mental well-being. He also supervises residents in the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics clinics, as well as on the medicine wards. As a faculty advisor, he guides medical students in their professional development and the exploration of health, illness, and society. His latest research interests focus on implementing sustainable preventive care and lifestyle medicine services in a state institution. Outside of UIC, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, including his young son. He also has a passion for learning languages and speaks English, French, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. A frequent dreamer of becoming a professional soccer player, he plays every year in the UIC intramural soccer league with medical students, residents, and fellow attendings.
