Mission
The Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine was founded in 1970 to support the educational and research needs of the Faculty, Staff and Alumni of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Support is provided by obtaining, applying and disseminating biomedical information and the tools for its management and use.
Vision
The context for achieving this mission is the vision of an environment in which individuals can access and obtain biomedical information when and where they need it, and in the format most appropriate to their need, regardless of the location of that information. The Library maintains several computer/study carrels and related equipment to facilitate the access, use and storage of that information. The Library’s collection encompasses exclusively the specialty fields of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
Comprehensive Information Support and Instruction Center
The Library provides information support services to the Faculty and Staff of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and to the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. In addition, the Library’s collections are available on a reference basis to all who are engaged in teaching, patient care, research, administration, and public service at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Instruction is provided in the use of web-based bibliographic and database management software. Comprehensive literature searches and article retrieval are provided upon request.
Regional Health Information Support Center
The Library benefits from and provides limited informational assistance to regional and international vision science information professionals through its membership in the Association of Vision Science Librarians (AVSL).
Donations
Donations in support of the Library and its services are greatly appreciated. Please contact Margaret Chervinko with questions regarding any of our services or to arrange a donation.
Location and Hours
