The goal of the CDIS Summer Internship Program is to introduce or strengthen research skills, professional development skills, and knowledge of implementation science of undergraduates or those who have recently graduated. Interns support the efforts of the Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science (CDIS) to advance the field of dissemination and implementation science in the service of improving health outcomes. Over the course of the summer, interns will directly support one or more ongoing projects at the Center, which may address such topics as adolescent sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, substance use, aging, mental health, and/or community empowerment. They will also learn more about the field of implementation science and participate in networking and professional development activities.

The intern’s duties will be as follows:
- Contribute directly to one or more CDIS projects. Responsibilities could include conducting participant recruitment and/or tracking, collecting data, entering/analyzing data collected, carrying out literature reviews, and supporting program facilitation and/or training;
- Provide updates on tasks as needed to the CDIS faculty/staff supervisor of the project(s);
- Join regular intern cohort meetings to discuss progress made, questions, and related topics;
- Participate in regular activities planned for the internship cohort. Activities could include attending webinars/presentations, reflecting on learnings in follow-up discussions, and engaging in professional development sessions.
Each intern is expected to give a final presentation at the end of the internship. The presentation can range in scope, from reflecting on key lessons learned to presenting findings from research conducted. CDIS faculty/staff will support each intern to identify a topic for the presentation.

Weekly intern cohort meetings will include sessions which alternate in focus between implementation science and professional development. A tentative list of topics is as follows:
- Week 1: Welcome, introductions, and logistics
- Week 2: Implementation science: Introduction to Dissemination and Implementation
- Week 3: Professional development: Conducting a Literature Review
- Week 4: Implementation science: Implementation Outcomes and Frameworks
- Week 5: Professional development: Writing a Cover Letter and Building your Resume
- Week 6: Implementation science: Qualitative and Mixed Methods Approaches
- Week 7: Professional development: Interviewing, Professionalism, and Showcasing your work
- Week 8: Implementation science: Exploring Health Equity in Implementation Science
- Week 9: Professional development: Setting Professional Goals and Determining a Trajectory
- Week 10: Final presentations
Qualifications Heading link
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate program or have recently graduated from an undergraduate program;
- A background in the field of public health, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related discipline;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write, edit and proofread written materials.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer technology (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Email, Internet, etc.).
- Self-motivated and well-organized, with a demonstrated ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, as well as being able to work effectively under pressure.
- Possessing a positive, results-oriented approach to work.

- Interns are expected to commit at least 10 hours per week to the internship. The internship will run from May 28th through August 2nd, 2024, (10 weeks) with potential for preliminary meetings prior to May 28th.
- Interns must be based in Chicago, Illinois.
- This internship is unpaid. We are happy for interns to pursue paid work outside of the internship during the summer, so long as they can commit to at least 10 hours per week for this internship and can make themselves available for the weekly meetings on Zoom.
