ISPB 2014 Awards are Announced
Congratulations to members of our research and clinical team, our residents, and medical students. Our department has received 7 research grants from the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness (ISPB). The recipients are listed below.

Pablo Barrionuevo, PhD
Project: Melanopsin Photoresponse Deficit in Glaucoma
Dr. Barrionuevo is a postdoctoral scholar in the Visual Perception Laboratory directed by Dingcai Cao, PhD.

Andrew Francis, MD
Project: Abnormalities in Retinal Layer Thickness due to Diabetes Assessed with Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography
Dr. Francis is a 2nd year ophthalmology resident.

Sachin Jain, MD
Project: Functional Measures as Surrogates for Vision-related Quality of Life in Patients with Glaucoma
Dr. Jain is a 3rd year ophthalmology resident.

Sapna Tibrewal, MD
Project: Role of Neutrophils in Pathogenesis of Chronic Ocular Graft-versus-Host Disease
Dr. Tibrewal is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Corneal Neurobiology Laboratory directed by Sandeep Jain, MD.

Gautam Vangipuram
Project: Association Between Retinal Vessel Size and Short Term Intracranial Pressure Changes in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Mr. Vangipuram is a 4th year medical student. Additionally, Mr. Vangipuram is the first recipient of the James A McKechnie, Jr. Award.

Hongyu Ying, PhD, Research Assistant Professor
Project: Suppression of Ocular Fibrosis by SiRNA-Nanoparticle Technology

Jimmy Zhu
Project: Differential Vascular Formation in Corneal Transplant Rejection
Mr. Zhu is a medical student working in the Corneal Angiogenesis Laboratory directed by Robert Chang, PhD.
