Residencies

53 residency programs are available on the Chicago campus in a wide variety of fields. Students here have access to some of the best training in the country, including the emergency medicine residency which is regarded as one of the best of its kind, and the neurosurgery residency which includes six and one-half years of neurosurgery training at the University of Illinois Medical Center,Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Research

Groundbreaking research includes a project to develop a prostate cancer vaccine, an initiative to discover the neurophysiological basis of brain disorders, and an effort to transplant islet cells to cure diabetes. The college recently received a $7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a study of the mechanisms of infertility. In fiscal year 2001, it received over $63million for research.

Combined Professional/Graduate Degree Program Admission

Candidates interested in combined degrees from the College of Medicine and the Graduate College or the School of Public Health or the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago must meet admission requirements stipulated by each program. Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions (GPPA)

The Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions (GPPA) is targeted toward high school students, guaranteeing incoming freshmen admission to a the professional or graduate program. A high school senior who wishes to be considered for the GPPA must apply to one of the University of Illinois at Chicago undergraduate colleges and to GPPA in the College of Medicine. Degree Programs, Education and Training

The University of Illinois at Chicago offers four degree programs and 53 residency programs. Our Continuing Medical Education Program (CME) is committed to continuous professional development through lifelong learning. Additionally, we offer a special curriculum that prepares physicians for practice in urban communities.

Faculty

The distinguished faculty of the Chicago campus includes editors of peer-reviewed journals, the president of the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians, recipients of Best Doctor in America awards, and many other accomplished instructors and researchers.

Financial Aid

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Office of Student Financial Aid provides a range of financial services designed to help students and their families meet the cost of financing a medical school education. Financial aid awarded consists primarily of loans, but many also include partial tuition waivers, scholarships, fellowships and grants. Clinical Experience

No other medical school compares with the College of Medicine’s ability to provide students with extensive clinical experience early. Students on the Chicago campus get hands-on clinical training patients as early as their first year at one of the eight teaching hospitals nearby.
