Graduation with Distinction in Research and Scholarship Heading link

The Department of Radiology commends graduating Diagnostic Radiology (DR) or Interventional Radiology-Diagnostic Radiology (IR-DR) resident physicians who demonstrate excellence in research and scholarship during the residency training period with the designation of Graduation with Distinction in search and Scholarship at the time of residency completion. The criteria for attaining this accolade are:

  • Nomination by a Department of Radiology faculty member for “research/scholarship excellence, productivity, and initiative,” and confirmation by majority vote of faculty members of the Department of Radiology Education committee
  • Author or investigator on a total of four (4) scholarly activities, consisting of a combination of either original manuscript publication (maximum 1 case report or review article), abstracts/presentations at national or international meetings (maximum 2), or original research grants during the DR or IR-DR residency period
  • Oral presentation of completed scholarly or research activity at annual Department of Radiology Resident Presentation Forum during the DR or IR-DR residency period
  • Submission and approval of at least one (1) institutional review board (IRB) protocol during the DR or IR-DR residency period
  • Participation in the University of Illinois Center for Clinical and Translational Science 3-day Summer Program in Clinical and Translational Research Methods during the DR or IR-DR residency period

Graduation with Distinction in Clinical Service and Education Heading link

The Department of Radiology commends graduating Diagnostic Radiology (DR) or Interventional Radiology-Diagnostic Radiology (IR-DR) resident physicians who demonstrate excellence in clinical service and education during the residency training period with the designation of Graduation with Distinction in Clinical Service and Education at the time of residency completion. The criteria for attaining this accolade are:

  • Nomination by a Department of Radiology faculty member for “clinical/service excellence, productivity, and initiative,” and confirmation by majority vote of faculty members of the Department of Radiology Education committee
  • Oral presentation of completed longitudinal practice quality improvement (PQI) project at annual Department of Radiology Resident Presentation Forum during the DR or IR-DR residency period
  • Longitudinal participation on one (1) departmental, hospital, or local/national society/foundation committee during the DR or IR-DR residency period
  • Participation in the University of Illinois College of Medicine Mentors Program during the DR or IR-DR residency period
  • Any combination of 4 of the below:
    • 1-hour conference for medical students
    • 1-hour conference for non-Radiology residents, fellows, or midlevel providers
    • 1-hour Grand Rounds to non-Radiology Department (counts as 2)
    • Lead a hands-on workshop for Medical Students (minimum 1-hour in duration)
