About
Dr. Elmira Jalilian earned her Ph.D. in Stem Cell and Developmental Biology from University College London (UCL), Institute of Ophthalmology, following an M.Sc. in Medical Genetics from Newcastle University and a B.Sc. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Tehran University. Her research bridges regenerative medicine, neuroscience, and ophthalmology, with a focus on extracellular vesicle (EV)-based therapies. Dr. Jalilian leads a multidisciplinary program investigating the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cell-derived EVs for corneal nerve regeneration and explores the tissue-specific roles of EVs, particularly those derived from corneal cells, in maintaining epithelial homeostasis and promoting nerve repair. Her lab integrates advanced in vitro and in vivo models to uncover molecular mechanisms of EV-mediated regeneration, aiming to develop novel treatments for vision-threatening neuropathies.
