Dr. Heiferman is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at UIC and a staff physician at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Dr. Heiferman is a vitreoretinal surgeon and ocular oncologist with interests in translational cancer research, retinal imaging, and medical education.
Dr. Heiferman’s cares for patients with tumors of the eye, including ocular melanoma, hemangiomas, and cancers that have spread to the eye from other parts of the body. He also cares for patients with vitreoretinal disorders, including diabetic retinopathy; macular pucker and macular holes; central serous chorioretinopathy; and complications following cataract surgery. Dr. Heiferman’s research interests include identifying novel therapeutic targets, earlier detection, and prognostication in ocular oncology. He is also interested in using advanced imaging techniques to study the diagnosis and prognosis of retinal diseases and ocular tumors.
