The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine stands as a leader in women’s healthcare, embodying a commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and transformative research. I began serving as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2021 – initially in an interim capacity and now as a permanent appointment. It is truly an honor to be part of this department’s remarkable legacy. For over a century, our department has been committed to training exceptional physicians in women’s health. Throughout the years, we have proudly cultivated leaders and experts in Obstetrics and Gynecology, high-risk pregnancy, reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, and family planning.

At UIC, our faculty and researchers continue to drive innovation, expand scientific knowledge, and advocate for equitable access to health. Their work shapes the future of women’s health and medical education, not just locally, but globally.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology plays a vital role in improving the health of historically marginalized communities in Chicago. Alongside our dedication to outstanding patient care, we maintain a deep commitment to excellence in medical education—training the next generation of specialists in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Family Planning, Urogynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, and Ultrasound.
