About
Dr. Trotter’s clinical, research and teaching interests focus on care of people living with HIV, HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections and general infectious disease. He provides clinical care and medical program support in UIC’s Ryan White Program, the University of Illinois Clinical Care Network (UCCN). He also collaborates with UIC’s Department of Emergency Medicine Project HEAL (please hyperlink “Project HEAL” to this site https://chicago.medicine.uic.edu/emergency-medicine/em-research/projects/ ) in its universal HIV screening and linkage to care program in the UI Health Emergency Department, HIV PrEP program and syphilis screening programs. Dr Trotter has global health experience in Nepal, India and Namibia. He continues to work on collaborative projects in Nepal with the Patan Academy of Health Sciences, where he has supported the development and start of the first clinical infectious disease training program for Nepali physicians.
Dr. Trotter previously worked and lived in Nepal. During that time, he has worked as a clinician focusing on HIV care, tropical medicine, treatment of drug resistant infections and general infectious disease. He has contributed to programs in Nepal to strengthen hospital-based infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, hepatitis C treatment and HIV care while in Nepal, as well as teaching medical students, resident physicians and other healthcare professionals.
