Biographical Info:
Dr. Heather L. Heiman currently serves as the Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education at the UI College of Medicine and practices Academic Internal Medicine in the Primary Care Plus clinic where she focuses on care of patients with chronic medical conditions. Her medical education interests include responsible use of electronic health records by medical trainees and educational support for learners working to achieve performance-based competencies such as communication, clinical reasoning, professionalism, and teamwork. At UI-COM, she developed the physician house advising model to enhance students’ professional development by providing individual, longitudinal physician advising to every student from day one of their medical education. She came to UI-COM after serving as medical director of the Clinical Education Center at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she advanced standardized patient-based education and assessment. She currently chairs the approval committee for the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment in Internal Medicine for the American Board of Internal Medicine
