Biographical Info:
Dr. Galanter is a clinician, educator and scientist in AIM at UI Health. His administrative responsibilities are as chair of the UI Health Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. His research centers around pharmaceutical therapeutics and the use of formularies, educational curricula and EMR’s to promote optimal prescribing, both to maximize effectiveness and to minimize the risk of adverse drug events. He has also done Health informatics work related to information exchange, health literacy and population health.
Research Projects:
Preventing Wrong-Drug and Wrong-Patient Errors with Indication Alerts in CPOE. This project will measure the reduction in specific types of medication errors with indication prompts/alerts. This project is funded by an AHRQ R01.
Integrating Contextual Factors into Clinical Decision Support. This project is meant to show that integration of patient entered psychosocial data and be leveraged by CDS in an EHR can promote contextualized care. This project is funded by an AHRQ R01.
Conservative Prescribing: Profiling and Education Project. This project will develop metrics for conservative prescribing and new ways to measure prescribing quality. This project is funded by a grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
Measuring Fragmentation in Primary Care with a New Fragmentation Score. This project has developed and is measuring the characteristics of a new metric, COSEQ, for fragmentation of care. This is non-funded.
