The University of Illinois College of Medicine is proud to announce that Dr. Sarah Messmer, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pediatrics, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) Faculty of the Year Award. This recognition is bestowed upon faculty members who exemplify the values of humanism, empathy, and compassion in their practice, teaching, and contributions to the community and the medical field.
Dr. Messmer’s commitment to humanistic patient care and her impactful contributions to the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago (UICOM Chicago) and the broader community have been highlighted by her nominators as exceptional. Her approach to patient care, which goes beyond diagnoses to see the person behind the patient, and her systemic improvements to community health have been particularly commended. These actions embody the core values of the Arthur P. Gold Foundation and the mission of the GHHS, making her a fitting recipient of this year’s award.
The GHHS Faculty Award is an annual honor decided by the students inducted into the GHHS and the graduating M4 class. It recognizes a UICOM Chicago faculty member who not only demonstrates excellence in humanistic clinical care or teaching but also inspires students toward a compassionate, patient-centered approach to medicine.
We invite the UICOM community to join us in celebrating Dr. Messmer’s well-deserved recognition at the GHHS induction ceremony on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 2pm in the Thompson Rooms of Student Center West.
Congratulations, Dr. Messmer, on this remarkable achievement and thank you for your dedication to fostering a culture of humanism in medicine.
