Examining Systems Of Risk Appropriate Maternal Care With Systems Science

Led by LAUREN N. STEIMLE, PHD
Prof. of Industrial & Systems Engineering
Georgia Institute of Technology

While the clinical management of obstetric conditions has been improving, there's a critical need to improve care delivery at a systems level. Systems-level challenges include a lack of geographic access to care, financial and safety concerns with low-volume hospitals, hospital closures, and delivery in risk-inappropriate facilities. In this talk, we give two examples of how "systems science" methods can be used to analyze risk-appropriate maternal care and inform strategies for improving these systems.
