Cardiovascular Research Core & Obesity in Pulmonary Hypertension
In Person - Moss Auditorium, 1020 COMRB
This talk will provide an overview of the UlC Cardiovascular Research Core, highlighting its state-of- the-art services in cardiovascular and pulmonary disease modeling, including echocardiography, hemodynamics, and preclinical rodent models. The second half of the presentation will focus on new findings from a study on obesity and pulmonary hypertension, demonstrating that obesity and hypercholesterolemia may confer protection against
hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (PH) in mice. Using high-fat diet and ApoE knockout models, the study uncovers potential mechanisms by which cholesterol modulates vascular remodeling and pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell proliferation in PH. These findings challenge conventional views and may provide insights into the obesity paradox in
cardiopulmonary diseases.
