About

Dr. Zweerink completed her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in May 2021. She also earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in May 2020, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Zweerink is an Emergency Medicine Resident at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she has trained since July 2021.

Dr. Zweerink has been involved in several research projects throughout her career. A highlighted publication includes:

  • Bader, H., Zamir, H., Nehme, F., Cheng, A.-L., Aftab, N., Mathews, T., Muthukumar, V., Zweerink, K., & Clarkston, W. K. (2021). "Inpatient Status is Associated with Longer Transit Time and Lower Completion Rate in Video Capsule Endoscopy." Published in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Her research interests also include interprofessional learning and pregnancy-related antiemetic use in the emergency department.

Dr. Zweerink has demonstrated significant leadership throughout her career. She has served as a Resident Advisor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, providing mentorship and support to junior residents. Additionally, she has been involved in various teaching roles, including leading clinical practice workshops and organizing simulation events.

Dr. Zweerink is deeply committed to community service. She has volunteered at the KC Care Dermatology Clinic, providing quality dermatological care to underserved populations. She has also been actively involved in the Sojourner Health Clinic, offering medical care at no cost to the medically indigent in downtown Kansas City.

Dr. Zweerink has received several honors for her academic and professional achievements, including graduating Magna Cum Laude from her undergraduate program and earning a Sarah Morrison Research Grant in January 2020.

In addition to her clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Zweerink is strongly committed to education and mentorship. She has served as a Senior Partner and AMWA Big Sister at the UMKC School of Medicine, mentoring junior students and providing emotional and professional support.

Dr. Zweerink's extensive experience, dedication to community service, and commitment to advancing the field of emergency medicine make her a valuable addition to our team. We look forward to her contributions in the upcoming year.
