About

Dr. Thompson earned her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2020 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Duke University, achieving recognition on the Dean’s List with Distinction in the Spring of 2012.

Dr. Thompson is completing her Emergency Medicine Residency at Louisiana State University New Orleans, a tenure that commenced in 2020. Her time at LSU has been marked by her exceptional skill and dedication to her field; she was awarded the Clerkship Resident of the Year Award in 2023.

Dr. Thompson's commitment to the medical community extends beyond her clinical duties. She has served in various leadership roles, contributing significantly to academic emergency medicine. As a member and resident reviewer on the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Grants Committee, she reviewed and scored numerous grant proposals. Additionally, she has been a Resident Editor for the Journal of Academic Emergency Medicine and an active participant in the EMRA/ACEP Leadership Academy.

Her research contributions and involvement in projects spanning various topics are noteworthy. She has evaluated clinical outcomes of lumbar spinal fusion and investigated the correlations between prostate cancer treatments and lifestyle factors. Among her published works, a standout piece is:

  • Brown, D.R., Thompson, J., et al. (2017), "Later life swimming performance and persistent heart damage following sub teratogenic PAH mixture exposure in the Atlantic killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus)," published in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

Dr. Thompson's excellence has been recognized through various awards, including the Clerkship Resident of the Year Award in 2023 and the SNMA Excellence in Community Service Award in 2020.

In addition to her clinical and research achievements, Dr. Thompson has shown a strong dedication to diversity and inclusion within the medical field. She contributed to developing educational programs aimed at underrepresented minorities in medicine. Notably, she presented a poster on "Discover Medicine: A Formal Curriculum to Stimulate Interest of High School Under-Represented Minorities in Medicine" at the National Association of Medical Minority Educators Southern and Central Regional Conference 2019.
