About

Dr. Sanché Mabins completed her Doctor of Medicine degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, IL, in 2020. Before pursuing her medical degree, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University in 2014, where she was a member of the Rho Lambda Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Following her undergraduate education, Dr. Mabins expanded her expertise as a Postbac Intramural Research Training Awardee at the National Institutes of Health, receiving a certificate in the 30-hour course Health Disparities Academy in Bethesda, MD, in 2014-2015.

Dr. Mabins completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, IL. During her residency, she founded the Cook County EM Residency Social Emergency Medicine Committee, organizing a Social EM Lecture Series and Social EM Journal Club on critical social issues in emergency medicine. This committee included 40 resident physicians and faculty participants.

Dr. Mabins has held numerous leadership positions, underscoring her dedication to Social Emergency Medicine and diversity, equity, and inclusion within medicine. She is a contributing author of the "Race and Racism" section of the Social Emergency Medicine and Population Health Curriculum developed and published through the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. In 2023-2024, Dr. Mabins served as Co-Chair of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Education Committee for the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), pioneering the development of guidelines for creating educational materials, oral presentations, and webinars with a DEI perspective. Dr. Mabins has demonstrated her commitment to the community through her engagement with the I Am Abel Foundation since 2016, an outreach program for underrepresented minorities interested in careers in healthcare.

Dr. Mabins has received numerous awards and recognitions, reflecting her creativity as a watercolor artist and excellence within the field of emergency medicine. Some of her honors include:

  • First Place, Creative Works Award for "High-Tide" at the HumanisEM Conference 2023, Health Humanities at Johns Hopkins Emergency Medicine, Baltimore, MD.
  • Featured Artist at The HeART of Emergency Medicine, ACEP, and various other exhibitions.

Dr. Mabins is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. She has led numerous educational sessions, from regional workshops to national presentations, on topics including teaching procedural skills and providing seminars on trauma-informed care and the importance of intersectionality within medicine.
