We proudly share significant news about a transformative UIC project highlighting our leadership in healthcare innovation. Dr. David Chestek, Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine and Chief Medical Information Officer at UI Health, is a team member on this project, securing up to $10 million from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). This is UIC’s first ARPA-H award, underscoring our leadership in innovative research.
Dr. Chestek’s career trajectory has uniquely prepared him to participate in this initiative. Originally trained as a biomedical engineer, he brings a problem-solving mindset to healthcare, essential in bridging clinical medicine and health information technology.
His early work as a clinical informatics fellow at UIC, combined with his hands-on experience in implementing the Epic system during his time as Co-CMIO for Inpatient and ED, has given him a deep understanding of data’s critical role in enhancing patient care.
The Power of Data and AI in Health Care project exemplifies Dr. Chestek’s philosophy that better data leads to better care. Collaborating with the University of Iowa, University of Missouri, Loyola University, and technology partners like Microsoft and Tackle AI, the project aims to harness artificial intelligence to unify data across health disciplines.
