GEMS Student Stipend Support and Benefits
Introduction
The GEMS program is designed to attract the best and brightest minds in the field, offering competitive benefits that reflect our commitment to fostering a thriving academic community.
Financial Support
We understand the financial challenges that can accompany graduate studies. To alleviate these concerns, we are proud to offer enrolled and matriculating students a generous annual stipend of $40,000 for the 2025-2026 academic year. This provides our students with the financial stability to focus on their coursework, research and academic pursuits. Recognizing the evolving needs of our students, we also provide stipend adjustments as needed each year, ensuring continuous support throughout the entire duration of the program.
Balancing Academia and Family
We believe that fostering a supportive environment extends beyond the laboratory and into the personal lives of our students. Our formal parental leave policy allows graduate students, regardless of gender, to take up to 6 weeks of paid leave upon the birth or adoption of a child. This initiative is designed to ensure that our students can balance the demands of their academic pursuits with the joys and responsibilities of family life.
The inclusion of parental leave reflects our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive academic community. By offering this benefit, we aim to attract and retain a diverse array of talents and experiences, making our program stronger and more representative of the global scientific community.
Investing in Technology
In a program driven by technology, we believe in equipping our students with the tools they need for success. As part of our commitment to fostering cutting-edge research, beginning in 2024-2025, each matriculating student will receive a one-time $800 allowance for the purchase of personal computer equipment. This not only enhances the learning experience but also empowers our students to explore new frontiers in biomedical sciences.
Celebrating Individual Achievements
We believe in acknowledging and celebrating the accomplishments of our students. As of July 1, 2023, the College of Medicine introduced a one-time $2,000 supplemental reward for those who secure an individual fellowship during their period of study in the GEMS program. This is a testament to our commitment to recognizing and supporting the exceptional achievements of our scholars.
Building a Community of Excellence
Our program is more than just a pathway to a Ph.D.; it is a community where collaboration and innovation thrive. By providing these competitive benefits, we aim to attract the most talented and ambitious individuals in the field of biomedical sciences. We believe that investing in our students is an investment in the future of scientific discovery, and we are committed to supporting each student’s unique journey.
