Dr. Yadavalli joined the department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in April 2016 as a postdoctoral fellow and became a Research Assistant Professor in Jan 2022. He is a Material Scientist by PhD and a Virologist by postdoctoral experience with special focus on the development of drug delivery systems for the eye. His unique skillsets have contributed to the development of multiple funded projects including those to generate an activated carbon-based drug delivery system for the eye and repurposing Phenylbutyrate as an antiviral drug. His research focuses primarily on ocular diseases, especially those caused by microbial infections which lead to long term inflammatory pathologies. His PhD in nanotechnology and drug delivery systems gives him an added advantage with the ability to both develop and deliver drugs for the ocular tissue. During his postdoctoral years, he has directly contributed to the publication of more than 40 scientific articles. Some of these studies were published in high impact journals such as Science Advances, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Communications, The Ocular Surface and PNAS. During this period, he has also been part of 3 Patent applications which were a direct result of his primary research work.
