We would like to welcome you and thank you for your interest in our residency program! The University of Illinois Medical Center is in the heart of the Medical District, supporting the communities of South and West Chicago with close access to Greektown, Little Italy, Pilsen, and Chinatown neighborhoods. As a resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, you will receive incredible training while supporting one of the most diverse patient communities of Chicago.
Our training occurs at three main sites: University of Illinois at Chicago, Advocate Christ Medical Center, and MacNeal Hospital. With training at an academic level 3 NICU center, a level one trauma center, and a community hospital, our sites provide ample opportunity for comprehensive training in obstetrics and gynecology. They also offer unique opportunities in robotics and minimally invasive surgery, management of high-risk pregnancies and complex oncology patients, and early exposure to FPMRS and REI.
Weekly didactic lectures and daily teaching rounds provide a solid foundation in general OB/GYN knowledge and keep you up to date on the best practice in women’s care. Clinical and interdisciplinary research, global health opportunities, and medical student education will strengthen your medical training and provide a wide range of academic opportunities. OB/GYN residents routinely attend and present at local, regional, and national conferences including ACOG, SMFM, and SFP.
Our attending faculty members are accessible and are always looking for new mentees. Whether residents are interested in pursuing research in a particular area, entering into academic medicine, or continuing onto fellowship, there is an array of experiences and specialties across our faculty that will support your development as a resident. Upon completion of your residency, you will be exceptionally well prepared to pursue the next steps in your career (elite fellowship opportunities or begin a career as a generalist in private practice or academics).
From river float trips and rooftop get-togethers to brunches, baby showers, and birthday parties, we truly enjoy spending time together outside of work. We hope we have the opportunity to meet you and see if you would be a good fit for our residency family!
Sincerely,
Charlotte ter Haar, MD; Nada Hussein, MD; and Dhanu Thiyag, MD
