I grew up as the child of South Asian immigrants in metro-Detroit. The 2008 recession deeply impacted families in Michigan, though in different ways. In college, I found language for those differences as manifestations of generational wealth and policy. This understanding grounds and informs my work as a clinician and an organizer. My mom was a public librarian, so much of my childhood was spent wandering the library. The library is a space centered on community and those years informed my desire to become a community rooted physician. I moved to Chicago to attend medical school at Rush, where much of my work focused on neighborhood-based efforts to increase access to care for undocumented community members. My interests are in preventive medicine, liberation medicine, and end of life care. I want my practice to reflect the needs of my community and family medicine at UIC offers a broad base of intentional training that allows me to do just that.
