Health Disparities Scholarship in Emergency Medicine Heading link
The Department of Emergency Medicine at UIC is committed to fostering diversity and addressing health disparities through education, research, and clinical practice. To support this mission, we have established the Health Disparities Scholarship for senior medical students considering a career in Emergency Medicine (EM).
This scholarship provides students with an immersive experience in an academic EM training program at an institution dedicated to mitigating health disparities. Participants will engage in hands-on clinical experiences, mentorship, and exposure to EM sub-specialty areas actively pursued at UIC, including:

🔹 Toxicology
🔹 Ultrasound (US)
🔹 Social &Global Emergency Medicine
🔹 Education & Simulation (SIM)
🔹 Resuscitation
🔹 Health Policy & Administration
About the Program Heading link
Selected fourth-year medical students will complete a four-week clinical rotation in the University of Illinois Hospital Emergency Department (ED). This experience includes:
✔️ Participation in weekly residency conferences and workshops
✔️ Hands-on clinical training in a high-volume, urban emergency department
✔️ Completion of an evidence-based medical presentation on a relevant case encountered during the rotation

The Health Disparities Scholarship aims to mentor and empower students interested in Emergency Medicine with a strong focus on health equity. By offering a comprehensive experience in an academic EM residency program, we strive to enhance diversity in the medical field and support future leaders dedicated to reducing healthcare disparities.

Highly motivated fourth-year medical students with strong academic records and an interest or background in health disparities are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Award: $1,500 (for the 4-week program)
Funds will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the elective.
Eligible expenses may include:
Travel costs (airfare or transportation to/from UIC)
Housing expenses

Application Requirements
To apply for the Health Disparities Scholarship in Emergency Medicine, applicants must submit a completed scholarship application, which includes:
Personal Statement – Describe your interest in Emergency Medicine, commitment to addressing health disparities, and how this scholarship will support your career goals.
Two References – Provide the names and contact information of two professional references who can speak to your academic performance, clinical skills, and dedication to health equity.
Current CV – Highlight your educational background, clinical experiences, research, leadership roles, and any work related to health disparities.
