Learn about the Department of Medical Education’s Health Professions Education (HPE) programs, meet faculty, and ask questions!
The Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine offers Master's, PhD, and Graduate Certificate programs in Health Professions Education (HPE).
These programs are designed for health professionals with a deep interest in HPE and seeking additional leadership and scholarship skills to advance their careers. Students are health professionals from diverse fields and are at various career stages, from in-training to late careers.
Situated in one of the first and largest medical education departments in the world, HPE students and graduates join a tradition of excellence going back more than 65 years. The University of Illinois College of Medicine is globally recognized as a leader in HPE, and students will learn from and be mentored by the world-renowned faculty.
Applications for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education program for the Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 semester are Open Now.
Applications for admission to the PhD and MHPE programs for the fall 2026 semester will be available starting August 2025. There is a single admission cycle annually.
