Welcome to the Department of Medical Education (DME) at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Established in 1959 by George Miller, DME is the oldest and largest department of medical education in the world. We aim to advance the theory and practice of education to improve health care at home and across the globe by pushing the boundaries of research in education and related disciplines, offering outstanding educational programs that develop leaders, scholars, and educators, and delivering expert collaborations and partnerships. We are pioneers who continue to make groundbreaking impact on the landscape of medical and health professions education research today.
We offer competitive education programs in Health Professions Education (HPE), Patient Safety Leadership (PSL), and a wide range of programs that include health humanities, simulation, and clinical teaching. Our alumni make an impact nationally and internationally, in more than 20 countries around the world.
I invite you to explore our work and join us in driving meaningful innovation in health professions education.
